Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

How to Land the Job

Resume and Cover Letter

  • The key to getting a co-op/internship interview is a professional resume and cover letter.
  • Your resume and cover letter should be tailored to each individual job that you are applying for based on the details in the job ad.
  • You can book a one-on-one Resume and Cover Letter appointment either in person or virtually through the Student Life Portal. (www.ontariotechu.ca/careercentre)
  •

Job Fairs and Employer Info Sessions

  • Every October, the Faculty of Business and IT participates in a unique job fair called the “Reverse Career Fair”. This job fair is only for approved FBIT students and is different from a regular job fair in that you are the one with the table and display and employers come to talk to you!
  • In February, Ontario Tech also hosts a general Job fair that will include companies looking for FBIT students.
  • Employers will often come to campus for directed information sessions.  More information on these can be found under the ‘Events and Workshops’ tab on the Student Life Portal. (www.ontariotechu.ca/careercentre)

Job Search

  • Job searching and applying for internships takes place each semester. Jobs are typically posted in the semester before you would start your internship.
  • Book an appointment with your Internship Coordinator or drop by the Internship Office (UB 4028) to discuss any questions.
  • Students are encouraged to independently job search outside of the jobs posted to the portal. You can find your own opportunities through job search websites such as https://www.indeed.ca or https://www.linkedin.ca
  •

Job Interview

  • Prepare for the job interview by reviewing the job posting as well as the resume and cover letter that you submitted in your application beforehand.
  • Interviews can take place on the phone, online, or in person.
  • Dress to impress for your interview.
  • Use the skills and tips that you learned from your mock interview to rock your job interview!

Job Offer

  • Congratulations on receiving a job offer!
  • If you require any assistance in navigating multiple job offers or negotiating the terms of your job offer, please connect with your Internship Coordinator Christine Miller.
  • Once you accept one job offer, you cannot decline it to pick another one at a later date.  This would be unprofessional.
  • Submit your signed job offer to us so we can enter all of the details on your record in the portal and provide the tax credit letter to your employer.
  • You will be registered in the Internship course and pay the fee for every term that you are completing your internship in.
